Bloomfield, Prince Edward County | A Vibrant Destination

Bloomfield is a bustling little village in Prince Edward County, located approximately 8km west of Picton, following Highway 33, also known as the Loyalist Parkway. In 2011 it had a population of almost 600. It has a rich community of bed and breakfasts, cafes, wineries, fine dining restaurants, artists studios, and unique shops. It hosts many popular roadside stands, antique shops, and a handcrafted ice cream shop which caters to thousands of locals and tourists each summer. Garnering its name from Captain Bloomfield in 1833, the village was once a thriving community that relied on grist, flour, wool and saw mills, as well as a canning factory and a cheese factory. It also relied heavily on its large farming community.

Things to do in Bloomfield | Bloomfield Destination Landmarks and Events

Bloomfield has a multitude of things to do and see. The Waterfront Trail is located in the Mill Pond Conservation Area, and offers a 5km trail for walking, running and cycling. The Main Street has great shopping, including shops and boutiques, cafes and art studios, making it easy to spend an entire day wandering from place to place. There is an annual Soap Box Derby in July, which closes down Main Street Bloomfield and attracts families and friends from all around. The Baxter Arts Centre, which was once an old Cannery cafeteria, never runs out of community oriented programs and events, ranging from summer camps and art workshops, to silent movie nights. For those who enjoy antique shopping, Dead People’s Stuff Antique Shop is a favourite among locals, as well as County Traders. There are a few wineries within a close drive from the main strip, including the sprawling Huff Estates Winery, and the newly opened TerraCello winery, which offers delicious fresh-made wood-fired pizza. Angeline’s Inn is a long-standing, family run focal point in Bloomfield, worth popping in for lunch, or even just to stroll the beautiful grounds.
