Wellington, Prince Edward County | A Trendy Lakeside Community

Wellington is a rapidly growing community on the shores of Lake Ontario and West Lake, located along Highway 33 in the southwest region of Prince Edward County. It is the main village nestled among much of the island’s wine region. It has a population of approximately 1,860 (2011) but is expected to grow to around 4,000 by 2032. It was originally known as Smokeville, named after one of its earliest residents, Daniel Reynolds, whom the local First Nations people called ‘Old Smoke’. His home remains in tact along Main Street. Eventually it was renamed Wellington after the Duke of Wellington, once the post office was established in the 1830’s. Wellington is home to a number of acclaimed restaurants, cafes, shops, art galleries, and even a golf course.
